So far, so good.
I received these seeds promptly. I set up an area of the garden along my fence for these to grow and used a 2 to 2 to 1 composition of Soil Mix, Peat, and Vermiculite with Osmocote pellets. I have also used Miracle Grow plant food twice while watering (about every two weeks).Anyway, i planted ten of these, and nine have sprouted. They aren't very large yet, but have increased in size noticeably over the last few days. So far, so good. It is June 30th now. I will update this as things develop.

Sprouts within a week!
I purchased these seeds with good hope that they'll work well. I planted them about 1 week ago and yesterday I saw sprouts. I'm excited that they grew so quickly. :D I'll update it sometime in summer when/if they have flowers.

Died in infancy
The soil was prepared, the containers readied, the lights placed and the seeds planted. The little sprouts appeared in May along with varieties of vegetables in several containers. And then, after about three weeks they all died. I am sure it was something in the soil and will use the rest of the seeds for next years batch & hope for a better result. I give the rating this year as the sprouts did appear and began to grow. I think their demise is due to my lack of developed horticultural skills.

does a good job
I've been an avid gardener for many years and have been using these tomato spikes almost that long. These fertilizer spikes are a good way to add nutrients to your plants as they usually last for most of the gardening summer (at least where I've lived in California and Arizona) and once in place, you don't need to worry about having to fertilize the plants any more.I *plant* them at the same time I put the tomato transplants in the garden -- at least two and sometimes three or four spikes per plant. Because of the high amount of Phosphate (24) in these spikes (the middle number of the fertilizer breakdown of 8-24-8) the plants produce lots and lots of flowers which means lots and lots of tomatoes.A few years ago I started using them on bell pepper plants, also. Same result: lots and lots of flowers and lots and lots of peppers. IMHO, most fertilizers that stress Phosphate and don't have so much Nitrogen in them (the first 8 in the above formula) will probably...

Avid Summer Tomato Grower
I absolutely love this product. I used to live in Louisiana, now I live in Pittsburgh. I order my Jobes spikes online in early spring so that I have plenty to get myself started, and a few extra packs so I can re-apply every 7-8 weeks. I stick them in around the tomatos when I plant the seedlings, and there is nothing more to say. SUCCESS!!!! I recommend them to everyone. I have never heard of anyone being unsuccessful.TWO THUMBS UP!!!

ive used twice already this year and it realy makes a difference inthe size of the plant and the tomatoes, i left one plant without it to compare and the difference is realy big.

When the plants get a little larger I will start tying each vine to a stake with plant tape. I have two cucumber plants – one with three vines and one with two. I spent lots of time thinking about how I would grow my cucumber plants. As is obvious from the photo, the suckers on my plants (indicated by the red arrows) had grown quite a bit, and were already starting to change the growth direction of the main stalk. I secured the main tomato stalk to a redwood stake with green plant tape. First I trimmed the suckers, then I staked the plants. If not trimmed, these suckers will stop the plant from growing straight up, and make it much bushier. I spent an hour outside yesterday doing the final major task for my tomato and cucumber containers: Staking.

Companion planting is an integrated planting technique where the plants benefit each other through pest repulsion or through other beneficial qualities. Companion planting is an integrated planting technique where the plants benefit each other through pest repulsion or through other beneficial qualities. I've mentioned several times about the value of companion planting so today for the Friday Fives I thought I'd go a little more into detail with some specific plants. Although I haven't tried inter-planting radishes with my squash plants before it is on my agenda for this season. They cut off the supply of water and nutrients to the rest of the plant which dooms the plant to the compost bin. Some damage will occur, some diseases will occur, and that's why the gardener needs to use multiple of techniques to insure a successful garden. Some damage will occur, some diseases will occur, and that's why the gardener needs to use multiple of techniques to insure a successful garden. Radishes are said to prevent damage from what I consider to be the worst pest of my whole garden, the vine borer. With any garden technique it isn't 100% fool proof.

I’m careful to plant at the same level or just slightly higher than the plant was growing originally and to stake at planting time if absolutely necessary. Even though I am planting in already improved garden soil or top quality potting mix, I amend with organic matters before planting. I’ve planted a pot or a garden bed every week since February and still have flats to go and plants to dig up and move. Since plants are mostly water, it makes sense that a new transplant needs water to prevent wilting. By gardening with organic principles in mind, I put the most effort into the beginning of the season and use my vast experience of gardening success and failure to tailor those tasks to meet my gardens’ needs and mine. Digging may be a hole big enough for a 3 gallon shrub or no more than a trowel full for a cucumber plant. The next day, 2 okra plants and one pepper were out of the ground, chewed a bit, and wilted badly. The sad thing is that this is not the only time I have had to deal with transplant shock so I knew what to do – replant and drench with Hormex Liquid Concentrate at slightly higher than the transplant rate: 1/2 tsp. I’ll admit that part of the relentless optimism of gardening means constantly planting something with the unspoken expectation that it will grow. Still, I was rushed one afternoon recently and didn’t put the cover on a new planting of okra and Peter peppers. that is, what you do to create good growing conditions and avert common problems at the beginning pays off with healthier plants in the end.

</del></strike>

Cucumber Plants News

Some seeds sprout faster than others

Vegetable seeds worth trying include corn, cucumber, bean, lettuce and watermelon.
